Rock de Carignane
Rock de Carignane is the wine that represents the best of our terroir. It is a 100% Carignan, which is a local kind of grape that nearly disappeared because it was badly used for the last 30 years and gave him a bad image, so people tired it off. Now there are not many left, and the vines remaining are really old, like ours: between 80 & 110 years old.
It is true that it is a difficult kind of grape for few reasons. First it is very sensitive to diseases, then if it grows on rich soil it will provide large quantities of grapes with harsh green tannins. Luckily in our case we do not have this kind of problems because the Berlou soil is so poor and dry that the grapes we pick up is well concentrated and maturated.
Rock’s nose is intense with mineral and forest notes. When opening it will switch to dark fruit scents. The mouth can be surprising thank to its silkiness and melted tannins that are quiet unusual for this kind of wine. In terms of aromas it opens up on red berries, fig and sweet spices notes.
Lightly chilled it will pair perfectly with red grilled meats, a fig duck breast or even a thym rack of lamb.
